Vintage Rare Murano Pink Lampwork Flowers Paperweight Controlled Bubble Base. Vintage Italian Murano Art Glass Paperweight featuring the controlled bubble (Bullicante) technique and a delicately crafted 7-stem flower design. Likely made in the early 1970s, this exquisite piece showcases the artistry of Murano glassmakers. The controlled bubble effect is achieved by layering molten glass and introducing precise air pockets using a metal mold, creating a mesmerizing optical effect that requires great skill and precision. Inside, the flower stems and petals are carefully sculpted using colored glass canes, drawn and twisted while still molten, with vibrant hues created by layering metallic oxides and minerals.
Murano, a Venetian island with a glassmaking history dating back to the 13th century, became world-famous for innovations in blown glass, millefiori, latticino, and Sommerso techniques. During the mid-20th century, renowned studios such as Fratelli Toso, Barovier & Toso, and Seguso Vetri d'Arte helped revive the art form with modernist and decorative designs.
Given the floral motif and craftsmanship, this paperweight may have been produced by Fratelli Toso, known for millefiori and floral designs, or Vincenzo Nason or artists from the Seguso Vetri d'Arte workshop, both of whom specialized in floral and controlled-bubble paperweights. A beautiful example of mid-century Murano glass, this paperweight is a testament to Italy's long-standing glassmaking tradition and would make a striking decorative piece or a fine addition to any art glass collection.
