Walther & Sohne Art Deco PIERROT & PIERRETTE Pink Glass 6 Piece Dressing Set
Pierrot & Pierrette Glass Dressing Table Set. This is a beautiful piece of Art Deco glassware. It is pink frosted glass in the form of a six piece dressing table set. It was made by the German craftsman of Auguste Walther & Sohne in the 1930's. The design is called Pierrot & Pierrette, which is one of the rarer patterns, especially with so many pieces.
The set comprises of the intaglio tray with Pierrot serenading his lady and night sky pattern. The design is cut into the reverse of the tray, which gives it a three dimensional effect. In the background, the light from the lamp post shines through the night sky to the stars. There are two graduated lidded bowls, both with rose wreathed lute topped lids. There is also a small oval, open ring dish.
Centre stage are the two wonderful candlesticks, one with the pierrot clown playing his lute and the other with a pierrette with a fan. The tray measures approx 36cm by 26cm wide (14 inches long by 10 inches wide). The two candlestick holders are approximately 15cm tall by 10cm wide (5.75 inches tall by 4 inches wide and 3 inches deep). The smaller lidded box is 9cm (3.5 inches) in diameter and the other is 11.5cm (4.5 inches in diameter). The open ring dish is 9cm, (3.5 inches) across. This is a set which has been treasured over the years. There are hardly any tiny nibbles to the glass edges, certainly nothing which is significant.
