
A beautiful and impressive Caithness Glass paperweight titled. Designed by Helen MacDonald and issued in 2001 as the Caithness Collectors Society Annual Paperweight. The edition was ultimately closed at 1,165 examples, making this a sought-after piece for collectors of contemporary Scottish studio glass. This elegant teardrop-shaped paperweight with one polished flat facet that displays a wonderfully complex internal composition.
At its centre is an intricate crystalline floral structure in vivid shades of pink and turquoise, suspended within the clear glass body. A delicate green spiral encircles the design, while a striking green bubble appears to hover above the central form, creating a remarkable sense of depth and balance. The flowing teardrop shape complements the internal decoration perfectly and gives the piece a highly sculptural appearance from every angle.
Caithness Glass was founded in Scotland in 1961 and quickly gained an international reputation for innovative art glass and collectible paperweights. Helen MacDonald produced a number of highly regarded designs for the company, often drawing inspiration from natural forms while incorporating contemporary artistic techniques.
