PATE DE VERRE CRYSTAL "ROSE" BOWL/DISH. Dimensions: 5" Diameter x 2" Tall. The Daum "Rose" bowl is made in pink and green crystal. This small bowl is surrounded by rose buds and blooms in a delicate display of fine craftsmanship. Studio crafted in a process referred to as "Pate de Verre".
Daum Glass factory was founded by Jean Daum in 1878. It is still in existence today. The company really took off around the start of the art nouveau era, rediscovering and perfecting the old pâte de fout technique.
Adding lead to the glass paste, Daum creates Pâte de Crystal, producing pieces with a texture and softness not achievable with blown glass. The process involves sculpting a clay model, from which a negative mold in elastomer is created.
This mold is filled with wax and once set, encased in heat-resistant plaster. Once heated in the kilns, the wax melts, leaving space for carefully calculated crystal fragments of various colors and sizes. Once again heated, the crystal melts into the hollow plaster mold. Since the process cannot be entirely controlled, each object is UNIQUE. After cooling, the plaster mold is broken, revealing the sculpture.A thin wax layer provides a matte finish. The object is then signed by Daum.
This is a stunning piece for your crystal display. It is a striking piece of crystal and will be the most prominent (lighted) display piece in your study, office, living room, or entryway! No original box or certificate. No US Protectorate, APO/FPO, or PO Box deliveries.
