Legras Sofia Art Nouveau Carnation Flower Enamelled Amethyst Glass Vase. C1900

A tall Francois Legras'Sofia' shape, amethyst glass vase enamelled and gilded with Oeillets (pinks / carnations) flowers and foliage decoration. The vase has a round body tapering up to the neck to form a hexagonal rim, the front of the body is thickly hand painted in coloured enamels in a stylised Oeillet / Pinks and leaf design with a band of gilding and flowers and leaf pattern to the rim around the top and central part of the body c1900. A similar shape'Sofia' vase can be seen in the book'LEGRAS' by Marie-Francoise & Jean-Francoise Michel / Dominique & Jean Vitrat on page 251 -plate 0639. Glass is excellent, no restoration, chips, cracks and no staining, some surface scratches to the glass on the back of the vase but not deep (see 3rd & 4th from last pictures), enamelling is in excellent order for age, some of the gilding to the rim has been rubbed slightly but generally reasonable overall, there are a few small bubble inclusions internally which are left over from the manufacturing process, other signs of wear commensurate with age and use.
